How many times have you either said or heard someone else say "It is what it is"? I'm guessing that would equal too many times to count! I am not particularly fond of this expression because to me it sounds a lot like giving up. It is what it is, huh? Why? Does it have to be? Absolutely not!
If there is something going on in your life that you cannot control, does that mean that you should just be unhappy about it and not do anything to change it? If you are in a situation that you cannot control, do you know what you can control...your attitude and view of the situation. You have the power to control how you feel about it and if you are going to let it get you down.
Some people very close to me are dealing with a lot of challenging situations at the moment. It is clear that they feel very hopeless and frustrated. You can see it in their eyes how desperate they are to find comfort and faith, but they cannot seem to find it anywhere. The words "it is what it is" are a constant in their daily conversations. The difference between some of these individuals is that some say this sentence with sorrow while others say it with a look to the future. You can see it in their face that while they are not exactly content about their current situation, they know that they will move past it and things will ultimately improve.
"It is what it is" can turn into "It is what I create it to be" all with a slight change of attitude. The next time you catch yourself saying this oh so common statement, stop yourself and replace those words with those more postive and powerful. Instead of giving up, move forward, change your outlook and start to create a vision that is so perfect you can't help but smile.

I'll Be Happy When...
Have you ever said “I’ll be happy when (insert your response here)”. I’ll be happy when I get that new car, when I make more money, when I get a new job, when my boss promotes me…you get the idea. We’ve all thought something like this at one time or another and the interesting thing about it is that when we do get what it is that we wanted and what we so adamantly believed would make us happy, many times we are disappointed. Other times we are happy for only that moment, but it quickly fades away and we start to search for the next thing to fill that void.
When we look for happiness in the things we have in our lives, we will most likely be dissatisfied. While it is nice to have lots of “things”, we can only truly be happy when we are at peace with ourselves. When we are happy with who we are, what we do and the relationships we cultivate, that is when the void disappears and we feel a sense of calmness in the pit of our stomach.
When we wake up every day and give thanks for what we have instead of covet the things that we don’t, it is easy to enjoy life and everything in it. Why is it so hard for many of us to look within ourselves for happiness instead of everywhere else? We get so caught up with what we drive, the kinds of clothes we wear, what clubs we are part of and how much money we make that sometimes we forget to be thankful for the little things that we have been blessed with.
When we wake up in the morning, let’s give thanks for the mere fact that well…we woke up to the start of a new day. Let’s give thanks for every person we come into contact with. If we encounter a rater unpleasant person, be thankful and think that maybe you were meant to run into that person so that you could shine some light on their life. Maybe you could play a part in changing that person’s outlook and attitude if only for a few moments. How amazing would that be?
The next time you find yourself saying “I’ll be happy when…”, stop yourself and think about all that you are blessed with that makes you happy now!

What Can You Do Today to Create an Even Better Tomorrow?
What is one thing you could start doing today that would improve your life? Could you start to eat healthier foods, work out more regularly, read more, spend more quality time with those closest to you or maybe even spend more time alone reflecting on what you want out of life? There are things that we know we should do in order to enhance our lives, but somehow we just don't get around to doing them. Why?
How many of us have planned to get out of work and head right to the gym when all of a sudden you think of an errand you have to run or better yet, someone walks into your office and invites you to join them for happy hour and just like that the gym becomes a distant memory as you sit and enjoy your delicious cocktail. Of course you promise yourself that tomorrow will be the day that you make it to the gym so you won't worry about it for the remainder of the evening.
We are such creatures of habit, aren't we? We always have good intentions on making changes in our lives, but when it comes down to actually following through, we become master excuse makers, don't we? Getting up and going to the gym may not be what you want to do at that moment, but when you leave don't you feel amazing? Not only because you are becoming healthier, but because you accomplished something and you feel just as good mentally as you do physically.
Like I said, we are creatures of habit so why not start good habits? And take baby steps. Think of one thing that you could start doing today that would make you feel fantastic about yourself and your life. Once you feel comfortable with that thing and it becomes routine for you, what else can you start to do? Make a game out of it. Challenge yourself to break out of your comfort zone and try new things. Don't watch television for one week...and don't cheat and use TIVO...GASP! Oh how will life go on if we don't know who is winning American Idol? Believe me, you will live and the best part is that when you decide to do something productive with that hour, your mind will feel a difference. Watch out...you may actually become addicted to getting things accomplished and miss even more of your favorite shows.
Don't misunderstand me. I am not telling you to not watch TV or that you should be trying to live a "perfect" life with no TV, junk food or just vegging out. What I am saying is that no matter who we are, where we are in life and what we do, we can all improve ourselves. We can all become more fabulous, but it is up to us to work on it. It is up to us to decide what we can do and then actually follow through.
So what is it for you? What will you start to do today that will make for a better tomorrow?

When Life Gives You Lemons...Throw a Party!
Wouldn't it be nice to map out your life and just wait for all of the pieces to simply come together exactly how you planned? We create the perfect checklist in our minds: Dream job...check, amazing partner...check, supportive family and friends...check, financial freedom...check. Well, we all know that no matter what we do, there are times when life is going to hand us some lemons. In fact, sometimes life is shooting lemons at us faster than we can even comprehend, but it is up to us to decide what we are going to do with them.
When life throws you a curve ball, what do you do? Do you sit and moan about the challenges or do you take a more proactive approach and do something about them? Some say, "when life throws you lemons, make lemonade", which is all well and good, but I say, when life throws you lemons, call some friends, make lemon meringue pie, lemon bars and maybe even some delicious cocktails and have a party! Instead of rejecting what comes your way, accept the lemons that were handed to you and create something fun out of them.
I do realize that some of the challenges we face are much harder to deal with than others, but what is fabulous is that since we are certain that we are inevitably going to deal with them, we might as well be as prepared as possible to tackle them with style and grace. When something unexpectedly occurs in your life, before you start to play victim (which is a role that each of us has played many times throughout our lives), take a step back and see how the situation can be viewed differently. See where there is opportunity to learn, grow and become a better person. In some situations this is much easier said than done, but if we maintain this kind of attitude on a regular basis, those big lemons don't hit us quite as hard as they would have.
Yes, when life gives you lemons, create a new recipe and share it with your friends.

Set Yourself Up for An Unbelievable Life: Open Your Mind and End Up So Far Beyond Your Wildest Dreams!
I often asked people where they see themselves in five years. Total interview question, isn't it?! It is so interesting to hear such a variety of answers. Some have their entire life mapped out while others are completely taken aback and can't tell you where they want to be next month let along five years. Do you think about where you want to be five, ten, fifteen years from today? What are you doing on a regular basis to get there?
Having a clear vision for your life is one of the most amazing feelings. It gives your purpose and clarity. Some people have a hard time coming up with their five year plan and one of the challenges is that some tend to think too small. It's YOUR five year plan...come on...THINK BIG! But that's not enough. You can't only think big, you have to BELIEVE big! If you mockingly say that you are going to own a multi-billion dollar company chances are, it's not happening.
When you start to believe that anything is possible, the things that once seemed so unrealistic and silly now seem completely doable. In fact, you start to create even bigger and more elaborate ideas of where you want your life to go. Things will start to happen that you never would have thought possible. You will see opportunities where you once saw obstacles. You will start to meet people who want to see and help you succeed. You will start to become so filled with passion, energy and hope.
Think Big! Believe Big! You have the power to create your perfect life! Don't settle for anything less than a life drenched with passion. Wake up every morning with a smile and go to bed every night thankful for all that you have. Appreciate your life and be the person that you are meant to be.

Smile...Dance...Laugh...Love!
You know those days when you wake up feeling not quite as fabulous as you'd like? It happens to us all, but what's great is that we have the power to turn our fabulousness switch back on to full force and break out of that mentality. Yes, I know you've heard this before and some of you may be saying "easier said than done", but think about it...what could be easier than changing your mind? You have complete and total control over it. All you have to do is decide. It really is a beautiful thing.
Ok, if you're not buying this, and some of you aren't, why not try some different things to bring back your fabulousness each morning. First of all, SMILE! That's it? Yep, I guarantee that if you look in the mirror and just slap on that fabulous smile of yours, there is no way your spirits won't start to improve. Secondly, turn on your favorite music and...you guessed it...DANCE! And I don't just mean sway your hips from side to side, I'm talking about full on arm swinging, hair flowing, jumping around dancing. Not only will this get your juices flowing, but it will make it easier to do number three, LAUGH! Yep, laugh even if it is at yourself. Who doesn't love to laugh? Finally, LOVE. As we go through the day it is easy to complain about life and all of the challenges we face. It is easy to judge others and be upset with the people in our lives and for what? I guarantee that being upset, hurt and angry with others is NOT helping you be your most fabulous self. Don't give others the power to make you feel a certain way. Keep the positive in and leave the negative behind.
Smile, Dance, Laugh and Love! Who wouldn't want to live like that?

Drench Your Life with Passion and Happiness!
Don’t you love those days where everything is going right and you just feel absolutely exhilarated? You feel energized and so completely alive!! Your stomach is in knots and there are so many emotions going on inside that you feel as though you are going to burst. Your smile is ear to ear and nothing can bring you down. What would it take to make your life look like that every day? To get up every morning feeling excited and psyched about what the day will bring.
We don’t know what each day holds for us. To be completely blunt, we don’t know that we will even have another day to enjoy which is reason enough to live every day with passion and purpose. Love what you do, appreciate the things you have and the people in your life. Meet as many people as possible and do what you can to help them. See the possibilities in even the smallest of situations. Thank someone. Smile and say hello to a stranger. Send a hand written note just to say hi.
When you wake up in the morning you get to decide how you are going to feel. How amazing, right? Hey, if we actually get to decide, we might as well decide to feel absolutely fabulous, right? Laugh at yourself and don’t take life so seriously. Tell people how you feel. Be honest. Try something new. Go with your gut. Don’t regret anything. Learn from your mistakes, but don’t let fear shy you away from continuing to make them. Be okay with failing.
Life is beautiful. Don’t let small obstacles stop you. Be genuine. Be sincere. Be your fabulous self and drench your life with passion and happiness!

Happy New Year! Stop Striving for Perfection and Make Your Dreams Come True!
Happy New Year! Can you believe it is already 2008? How many of us have said that this is going to be our best year yet? When a new year rolls around it is jam packed with opportunities and fresh starts. We can't help but get excited about what the year may bring. Many of us make New Year's resolutions. We have so much that we want to do with our lives, but for one reason or another we kept pushing our goals off throughout the year because our intention is, of course, to make a fresh start on the 1st of January. Unfortunately most of us don't keep those resolutions for very long and instead of acknowledging it and continuing to move forward, we punish ourselves and then just give up all together. If your resolution is to loose weight and by January 4th you have already cheated on your diet, how easy is it to throw your hands in the air, give up and continue your unhealthy lifestyle for yet another year. Same goes for smoking, being more organized or whatever your goals are for the year. When we do one thing to "mess up" that goal, we automatically think "game over" when clearly that should not be the case. We are not perfect! And are you ready for this one...we will NEVER be perfect! We will make mistakes, we will have bad days and we will make decisions that well, at the time didn't seem so bad. Don't set yourself up for failure with your resolutions by putting endless amounts of pressure on yourself. If you fall, get back up again and most importantly do it with a smile on your face, head held high and attitude on track. We all have goals and dreams and think about that perfect picture in our minds of what we want out of life. What's great is that we can absolutely make that happen as long as we are willing to persevere, continue to move forward and most importantly enjoy the journey along the way. Let's not get caught up in perfection and having an attitude of "all or nothing". Allow some space in your life for the unexpected and enjoy the opportunities each situation brings. Here's to a fabulous 2008! May you reach all of your goals...and maybe even some that you never thought you had!
